On May 29, 2021, the top ten finals of the 8th President’s Innovation Challenge were held at Tsinghua University. Peng Gang, Vice President of Tsinghua University, said in his opening speech: “As a banner of higher education, Tsinghua University aims to improve global competitiveness in the new stage of national development and realize the self-sufficiency in terms of high-level talents to meet the country’s major innovation needs.” After 4 hours of fierce competition and strict review, SEETRUM has achieved great success in the field of intelligent perception with its snapshot CMOS hyperspectral imaging chip. Innovative breakthrough won the gold award (first place), and won the only technological innovation award.
The competition lasted for more than 5 months covering the preliminary contest, semi-finals and finals, focusing on the Internet, environment, education, health, intelligent hardware, and artificial intelligence etc. A total of more than 80 teams of Tsinghua students, alumni and teachers participated in the competition, which reflects Tsinghua's innovative strength. Each team introduced their core technical advantages, potential customer groups, market competitive advantages and project development plans in an all-round way.
The jury of the final was composed of Professor Li Jizhen, Deputy Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, and more than ten first-line investment institution partners from SoftBank China, Sequoia Capital, SUMMITVIEW CAPITAL, Legend Capital, Northern Light Venture Capital, Cash Capital, Sinnovation Ventures, Zhen Fund, Inno angel Fund , TusStar. The review focuses on team results that break technical barriers, have great market potential, reflect innovation, imagination and foresight, and can drive social development.
In September 2020, SEETRUM was established as a startup company for the transformation of snapshot CMOS hyperspectral imaging chip that comes from the Nano-OptoElectronics Lab, Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University. With the mission of the industrialization and application of the achievement, SEETRUM strives to put the world's cutting-edge scientific research results to practical uses and see spectrum sensing technology in human’s daily life.

Tsinghua University President's Cup for Innovation Challenge started in 2014. Initiated and organized by Tsinghua x-lab, President’s Innovation Challenge is an annual competition for real innovation and entrepreneurship projects for teachers, students and alumni of Tsinghua University. It has been approved as an innovation challenge that promotes social progress.
