On the afternoon of October 15, 2020, SEETRUM held a grand opening ceremony in the Sunshine Hall of Tsinghua Science and Technology Park. Some distinguished guests attended this ceremony. They are: Cai Yuxiang, Deputy Director of Beijing Science and Technology Development Center for New Materials and New Energy (hereafter referred to as BJSTDC); Yang Xiaoli, Director of Science and Technology Project from BJSTDC; Pan Changbo, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Project from BJSTDC; Wang Yu, Dean of the Department of Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University; Wang Yuzhu, Dean Assistant of Technology Transfer Institute; Wang Wei, Executive Director of Beijing Huakong Technology Co., Ltd., and other 120 guest friends from academia, the same industry, and investment community.

The Unveiling Ceremony

SEETRUM, a high-tech entrepreneurial company, is committed to the transformation of Tsinghua University's research results. SEETRUM sets its goal to lead the development of global spectrum chip and achieve the coverage of spectral perception. Led by a Special-term Professor from Changjiang Scholars Program, SEETRUM has been advanced by elites from frontiers of nano-optical, integrated circuit, artificial intelligence, cloud computing. SEETRUM initially created a snapshot CMOS ultra-spectroscopy chip, which enjoys high precision, low cost and mass production, saying goodbye to large-scale and expensive existing spectral detection equipment that only supports scanning imaging. It is no doubt that the new chip will charter a new way for industries like consumer electronics, medical diagnosis, machine vision, and environmental monitoring etc.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Wang Yu, Dean of the Department of Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, was the first to give her speech. Professor Wang mentioned that in recent years, great achievements had been made in the transformation of scientific research results in the electronic department. Among all the intellectual property transformation projects related to Tsinghua University, 12% comes from the Electronic Engineering Department; As for the companies incubated from intellectual property transformation, the Electronic Department covers one-third. Professor Wang stressed that the goal of our scientific research is to make something that could be kept in the textbook, or something useful. I hope that SEETRUM can hold tight to the goal and work harder to the innovative development of the optoelectronic chip industry.

Then, Wang Yuzhu, the Director Assistant of the Technology Transfer Research Institute from Tsinghua University, and Wang Biao, the Executive Director and General Manager of the Beijing Huakong Technology Co., Ltd., gave their speech. They valued that the Tsinghua Electronics Engineering Department had bought a group of excellent hard technology entrepreneurial companies, and they wish a better future to SEETRUM.

After that, Professor Huang Yidong, one of the founder of SEETRUM and the Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University, delivered a speech. In related to the current development of national optical electronic chips, Professor Huang said “It is necessary to break through the bottlenecks. More importantly, we should work on the innovative technologies that make opponents feel stuck.” SEETRUM has been working on the scientific research of the core spectral imaging chip for 15 years, and today we finally make it real.  Thanks to the optoelectronic technology platform of Tsinghua Tianjin Electronic Information Research Institute, we achieved the development and intermediate test of the innovative optoelectronic chip. Therefore, we can say, SEETRUM is a successful exploration of incubating the scientific results of optoelectronic chip.

Professor Cui Kaiyu, another founder and Chief Scientist of SEETRUM and also the Associate Professor of the Electronic Engineering Department of Tsinghua University, recalled the history of SEETRUM and further explained the meaning of the name and the LOGO. “It is the belief that supports years of scientific research, and it is the vision that lives up to the youth that waters dream." With his emotional explanation, all the present friends further understand the mission and the belief of SEETRUM.

Then, Dr. Qudu, Chairman of Tianjin H-Chip Technology Group Cooperation (also the operation team of optoelectronics platform of Tsinghua Tianjin Electronic Information Research Institute), pointed that based on mature industry experience, H-Chip and Seetrum both offered strong supports to the R & D and the intermediate test of the chips. H-Chip would continue to stand by Seetrum’s side in the follow-up efforts. In the future, H-Chip would always support innovation-led technologies, just like those in Seetrum, and hope to promote the development of China's photoelectric chip industry.

At the latter half of the ceremony, all the leaders and delegates walked onto the stage and cut the ribbon with SEETRUM 's founding team to start the inauguration of SEETRUM in warm applause.

After the ceremony, Fei Jianjiang, General Manager of Oriza Seed, as the investor representative, gave a speech. He said, “As the lead investor of Cambricon--a leader in the global AI chip field, Oriza Seed is committed to the incubation and investment of China's hard technologies, and the innovative projects and teams from the Tsinghua University would win the focus.” He is very optimistic about the future of spectral technology, and expresses good wishes to SEETRUM.

Dr. He Jing, the Managing Partner of SEE Fund and General Manager of Huakong (Tianjin) Investment Management Co., Ltd, said in the speech that the name “SEE Fund” and “SEETRUM” both have the prefix “SEE”, indicating both are derived from the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University. As an investment institution that covers industry and finance, See Fund is very optimistic about the development prospects of spectral chips.

At last, three founders of SEETRUM made their speech. Dr. Cai Xusheng, the R & D Scientist, reviewed the experimental development of spectral chip project, from nothing to something. Dr. Huang Zhilai, the Chief Operation Officer, introduced the product advantages of spectral chip and praised the great potential of its commercialization. CEO Wang Yu shared his original aspiration--be committed to China's hard-technologies, and the mission to work on the transformation of excellent basic scientific research results.

The opening ceremony was successfully concluded with warm and sincere wishes. From today, SEETRUM officially sets sail!  As the slogan goes, “let spectral perception be everywhere". SEETRUM will fulfill its mission and lead the future of optoelectronic chip!
